Born 1937 in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay).  Dropped out of high school to join the Royal Canadian Navy, serving five years as an armourer.  In 1959, and now married, returned to Port Arthur to complete high school. Then UBC to earn a BSc.  Worked as a computer programmer, returned to UBC to qualify as a teacher.  Taught physics, mathematics and computer science for 26 years, retiring in 1995.  Proud father of two boys.  Interests include collecting Canadian military memorabilia, backpacking, target shooting, photography, geology, silversmithing and the study of languages.
